60% of IPB students from poor families

BOGOR, West Java: The Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) is cooperating with businesses to provide scholarships for its many bright students who come from middle to low-income families.

IPB data shows 60 percent of its students come from families with incomes below Rp 2 million (US$212) a month.

About 20 percent of students admitted through the national selection test have parents who earn less than Rp 1 million a month.

In cooperation with state forestry company PT Taspen, the IPB provides three-year scholarships for 50 students who have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 and have taken at least 90-credit semesters. -- Antara
