6,673 inmates across DKI Jakarta receive Eid al-Fitr 2026 remission
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A total of 6,673 inmates or residents in correctional facilities across the DKI Jakarta region have received special remission for the religious holiday of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026.
The handover of the remission decision letters took place after Eid prayers at the Jakarta Narcotics Penitentiary by the Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections (Kanwil Ditjenpas) for DKI Jakarta, Heri Azhari, on Saturday.
“Remission is a right for residents who have met the requirements and serves as an indicator of the success of rehabilitation. This demonstrates that the state is present to give recognition for behavioural changes towards improvement,” Heri stated.
He explained that the 6,673 residents across DKI Jakarta receiving special Eid al-Fitr remission consist of 6,564 people obtaining Remission Special I (RK I), and 109 people obtaining Remission Special II (RK II).
Meanwhile, specifically at the Jakarta Narcotics Penitentiary, the recipients of remission number 1,595 residents, consisting of 1,580 people receiving RK I and 15 people receiving RK II.
Heri emphasised that the granting of remission is part of the correctional system that emphasises rehabilitation and social reintegration.
The Head of the Jakarta Narcotics Penitentiary, Syarpani, said that the Eid al-Fitr moment serves as a means of reflection for all residents to continue improving themselves.
He stated that remission is not merely a reduction in the sentence period, but a form of appreciation for discipline and active participation in rehabilitation programmes.
“We hope that (this remission) becomes encouragement to lead a better life in the future,” he said.
Syarpani added that the Eid al-Fitr moment in the Jakarta Narcotics Penitentiary environment is not only a celebration of the day of victory, but also brings new hope for residents to shape their future.
“With the granting of this special remission, it is hoped that all residents will be increasingly motivated to participate in rehabilitation programmes optimally and be ready to return to society as better and more productive individuals,” he said.
