58kg Meth Courier Escapes After Interrogation, Jambi Police Demote One Officer
Jambi Regional Police have acknowledged that a methamphetamine courier named Alung alias MA, involved in a 58kg seizure, escaped after being examined in the investigation room. Due to this case, Jambi Regional Police have imposed a two-year demotion sanction on one officer.
According to detikSumbagsel, the Head of Public Relations of Jambi Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Erlan Munaji, stated that only one officer received the sanction for that negligence. He is AKBP Nurbani, the Deputy Head of Subdirectorate III of the Narcotics Directorate of Jambi Regional Police.
“For now, one person who was responsible at that time, and it was purely the negligence of the individual concerned. The one who received the demotion is named AKBP MN,” said Erlan when asked for confirmation on Friday (3/4/2026).
The sanction was based on the decision of the Police Ethics Code Commission Hearing (KKEP) by the Propam Division of Jambi Regional Police. In addition to the demotion, AKBP Nurbani was also subjected to a sanction of a public apology in front of the KKEP hearing.
“The violator’s actions were declared as disgraceful or unprofessional conduct,” said Erlan.
It is known that this case occurred on 9 October 2025. At that time, Jambi Regional Police successfully uncovered the distribution of methamphetamine from Medan, North Sumatra. In addition to Alung, police arrested two other perpetrators, namely Agit Putra Ramadan (24) and Juniardo (30).
This 58-kilogram evidence was taken to National Police Headquarters and subsequently destroyed, combined with other major seizures by other regional police. Meanwhile, the handling of the case continues at Jambi Regional Police.
It is known that Alung’s escape came to light after the filing of charges against the two suspects proceeded. Furthermore, Alung’s escape was also revealed in the indictment of the two other suspects who underwent their first trial on Thursday (2/4/2026) at the Jambi District Court.
“Before the examination by the investigator was carried out, Suspect MA fled from the investigation room when the investigator was coordinating in a different room,” said Erlan on Friday (3/4/2026).
After the incident, Alung was designated as a Most Wanted suspect since 12 October 2025. Police continue to pursue Alung alias MA.
“Until now, the Narcotics Directorate team of Jambi Regional Police is still conducting searches and pursuits for MA and has also requested assistance from the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency and other regional police,” said Erlan.
