500 events for city's anniversary

JAKARTA (JP): To celebrate the city's 470th anniversary on
June 22 and the country's 52th anniversary, the city will hold
500 events, Deputy Governor of Administrative Affairs Idroes
said.

Idroes, who chairs the events' organizing committee, said
commemorations started with the opening of the West Jakarta
mayoralty office on April 17. All events are scheduled to end in
October.

He urged all building managements and owners to decorate their
buildings with lights. "Participants will get certificates of
appreciation from Governor Surjadi Soedirdja," Idroes said.

Idroes has urged all shops, supermarkets and shopping center
owners and managements to put the anniversary logo on grocery
bags and other products. (ste)
