5 Villages Lost Due to Sumatra Disaster, Residents to Be Relocated
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian has stated that five villages have been lost due to floods and landslides in Sumatra. As the Head of the Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Post-Sumatra Disaster, he said the five villages are located in Aceh and North Sumatra. “So there are five villages. There are five villages in two districts, Gayo Lues (Aceh) and South Tapanuli (North Sumatra),” Tito said when met at his residence in the Senayan area, Jakarta, on Monday (23/3/2026). Tito detailed that three villages in Aceh need to be reorganised, namely Pasir Village, Remukut Village, and Tetingi Village. Meanwhile, in West Sumatra Province, no villages have been lost. According to Tito, if these five villages cannot be rebuilt, they will certainly be eliminated administratively. Meanwhile, the residents of the five villages will be relocated to places prepared by the government. The land for relocation will be prepared by the regional government. Meanwhile, the housing buildings will be prepared by the Ministry of Housing and Human Settlements (PKP). “(The 5 lost villages will) be eliminated in government administration, the residents will move to other places for relocation or stay on their own land as mentioned, so they will become residents in other places in different villages and sub-districts, including their ID cards which must also be reorganised,” Tito explained. “The rest are heavily affected, this (5 villages) are completely lost, the villages really no longer exist,” said Tito.
