5 Million People Yet to File Tax Returns, Tax Director General Reveals Reasons
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Directorate General of Taxes records that around 5 million individual taxpayers have not yet reported their Annual Tax Returns. This situation occurs ahead of the reporting deadline.
Tax Director General Bimo Wijayanto stated that the government has extended the reporting deadline until 30 April 2026.
“We still need around 5 million from individuals, and about 1 million something from entities,” Bimo said at the Ministry of Finance on Friday (27/3/2026).
The breakdown shows 8,196,513 employee individual taxpayers. Non-employee taxpayers number 924,443. Business entity reports are around 190,000.
Coretax account activations have also increased. A total of 16,963,643 taxpayers have activated their accounts, dominated by individuals.
Bimo explained that the extension decision was made after consulting with Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. The consideration is based on ongoing reporting data.
The government has also extended the tax payment deadline until 30 April 2026. This policy impacts the shift in state revenue.
“There is also a revenue shift, perhaps around Rp 5 trillion that will move to April,” he said.
The data integration process still faces challenges. Adjustments are needed due to the migration from the old system to the new one.
“We could only open Coretax since 1 January 2026, so it indeed takes time,” Bimo said.
He assured that technical issues are starting to be resolved. System load has increased due to the use of pre-populated features that automatically fill in data, including tax withholding evidence.
The system also performs more detailed data verification, up to biometric aspects.
The Directorate General of Taxes hopes this time extension will encourage taxpayer compliance. The quality of services and data accuracy remain maintained.
