5 Facts About Bantul Man Mixing LPG Facing Rp 60 Billion Fine
A man with the initials NF (35), a resident of Kapanewon Bantul, Bantul Regency, faces a maximum six-year prison sentence and a fine of up to Rp 60 billion after being caught mixing the contents of 3-kilogram LPG cylinders, or “gas melon,” into non-subsidised 12-kilogram cylinders. Here are the facts.
Mixing in Jetis
The Head of Criminal Investigation at Bantul Police Resort, AKP Achmad Mirza, stated that the police initially received information from the public about the practice of mixing LPG cylinders in Semberagung, Jetis, Bantul, on Tuesday afternoon (10/2/2026). The police then visited the location.
“After arriving, the police found several LPG cylinders, both 3-kilogram and 12-kilogram sizes, buckets, and regulators. The police also arrested the perpetrator who was carrying out the gas mixing practice,” he told reporters at the Bantul Police Resort on Wednesday (8/4/2026).
Admits to Acting 10 Times
NF confessed to the police that he had been engaging in the gas mixing practice since January 2026.
“From the confession, the perpetrator has carried out the action 10 times. The method involved mixing four 3-kilogram LPG cylinders by inverting them and filling them into pink 12-kilogram LPG cylinders, or non-subsidised LPG,” Mirza said.
Sells for Rp 180,000 Per Cylinder
Mirza explained that NF carried out the mixing action due to the allure of profit. NF admitted to buying one “gas melon” cylinder for around Rp 20,000.
“Then, the 12-kilogram LPG cylinders resulting from the mixing were sold by the perpetrator for Rp 180,000 per cylinder. In a day, the perpetrator could sell two 12-kilogram LPG cylinders,” he revealed.
Delivers to Customers by Motorbike
According to Mirza, NF only bought LPG from shop to shop. He then carried out the mixing and sold it according to orders.
“The 12-kilogram LPG resulting from the mixing was sold by delivering it using a motorbike. The perpetrator works as a daily casual labourer,” he said.
Prison and Fine Threat
NF is charged with the criminal act of gas mixing as regulated in Article 55 of Law No. 2 of 2001 on Oil and Gas as amended by Article 40 paragraph 9 of Law No. 6 of 2023 on the stipulation of Government Regulation in lieu of Law No. 2 of 2022 on Job Creation.
“The penalty is a maximum of six years in prison and a fine of up to Rp 60 billion,” Mirza concluded.
