Jakarta — A total of 480 participants in KAI’s Free Mudik programme departed on the Tawang Jaya Premium train (KA 178B) from Pasar Senen Station bound for Semarang Tawang on Tuesday.

Franoto Wibowo, Manager of Public Relations for KAI’s Jakarta Operational Division (Daop 1), stated that the Free Mudik programme represents one of KAI’s initiatives to encourage the public to transition from private vehicles, particularly motorcycles, to mass transport that is safer and more reliable.

“This Free Mudik programme is expected to help people return to their hometowns using a transport mode that is safe, comfortable, and punctual,” Franoto said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The programme is also expected to reduce the risk of traffic accidents that frequently occur during long-distance journeys using private vehicles.

The Free Mudik programme has been conducted since 2023 and forms part of KAI’s regular agenda in supporting the smooth flow of Eid holiday travel.

Beyond assisting the public, the programme contributes to reducing vehicle congestion on major mudik routes, such as the North Coast highway and the southern routes across Java.

Meanwhile, public mobility using railway services in the Jakarta Daop 1 region continues to increase as Eid approaches. On Tuesday, a total of 54,216 passengers departed and 22,574 passengers arrived across various stations in the Jakarta Daop 1 region.

Among these, Pasar Senen Station recorded the largest departure point with 24,412 passengers, followed by Gambir Station with 17,657 passengers and Bekasi Station with 4,659 passengers.

Cumulatively, since the start of the Eid transport season on 11 March through 17 March 2026, the total number of passengers departing from the Jakarta Daop 1 region has reached 346,845, whilst arriving passengers are recorded at 163,582.
