48 Inmates at Tabanan Prison Receive Idul Fitri Remission of 15 Days to Two Months
Forty-eight inmates at the Class IIB Tabanan Penitentiary have received special religious remission for Idul Fitri 2026. The duration of the sentence reductions varies from days to months.
The head of the Class IIB Tabanan Penitentiary, Prawira Hadiwidjojo, detailed that 14 wards received 15 days’ remission. Subsequently, 31 individuals received a one-month reduction in their sentence, one person received one month and 15 days’ remission, and two people received two months’ remission.
“The remission is given to those who have shown good behaviour and actively participated in rehabilitation programmes during their sentence,” said Prawira on Saturday (21/3/2026).
Prawira explained that the granting of remission is a form of the state’s trust in wards who have demonstrated a change in attitude during their punishment. He hopes the inmates will become better individuals.
“Today is not just about reducing the sentence period, but also about how our friends have proven their commitment to change for the better. Maintain that and use it as a foundation to step towards a better direction,” he added.
Prawira invited all wards to reflect on Idul Fitri as a turning point in life. According to him, Idul Fitri is not just a celebration, but a momentum to improve oneself and strengthen resolve.
In addition to remission for Muslim wards, Tabanan Penitentiary also handed over remission letters to Hindu wards during Nyepi Day. In total, there are 84 Hindu inmates who received remission with variations in sentence reductions from 15 days to two months.
