The Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) reported that as of day two of Operation Ketupat 2026, a total of 459,570 vehicles have left Jakarta. Out of a projected 3,671,028 vehicles expected to depart, approximately 3.2 million vehicles—76.9 per cent—remain in the capital.

“Our prediction is that we will see an increase on 14 and 15 March, but this evening we can report that approximately 459,570 vehicles have exited Jakarta. Out of our projection of 3,671,028 vehicles departing Jakarta, approximately 3.2 million remain—roughly 76.9 per cent,” said Brigadier General Faizal, Director of Law Enforcement at Korlantas Polri, speaking at the Command Centre in Cikarang, West Java, on Saturday, 15 March 2026.

A surge in vehicular traffic is predicted to occur between Wednesday, 18 March and Friday, 20 March. Police personnel remain deployed to monitor the situation closely.

“We will naturally anticipate the remainder of Operation Ketupat, particularly during the exodus period. Our predictions suggest that increased traffic will occur on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday,” Faizal stated.

On the second day of Operation Ketupat 2026, traffic accident incidents increased, though fatalities decreased significantly. Faizal attributed this positive outcome to enhanced police deployment.

“We report that whilst traffic accident incidents have indeed increased, there has been a corresponding reduction in fatalities and deaths, which have dropped by approximately 45 per cent,” he noted.

The departing vehicles are predominantly heading towards East Java. The traffic is dominated by private vehicles.

“The majority are still heading eastwards, towards the Trans-Java route. Our data checks confirm that nearly all vehicles heading east are dominated by private cars,” Faizal explained.

“As for other vehicles, at present trucks continue to be directed towards Merak and Bakauheni,” he added.

Operation Ketupat 2026 is scheduled to run for two weeks, from 13 to 25 March 2026. Authorities predict a total of 143.9 million journeys during this year’s Eid holiday exodus.
