The Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) has recorded that around 42 percent of Eid 2026 holiday returnees have not yet returned to Jakarta, despite the first peak of the return flow having passed. “Based on projections, 42 percent have not yet entered Jakarta. We are still managing this,” said Head of Korlantas Polri Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho in his statement on Thursday (26/3/2026). Therefore, Agus continued, the police are continuing their duties to address the potential surge in the second phase of the return flow in the coming days. Agus stated that the remaining returnees are still dispersed across various regions and are engaging in social visits or tourism in their hometowns. Agus explained that security efforts remain focused on several critical points, from arterial roads and toll roads to tourist areas and transport nodes. On arterial roads, congestion is still occurring in several agglomeration areas such as Bandung, Bali, and Greater Malang, due to high local mobility. Meanwhile, on toll roads, based on projections, around 3.5 million vehicles left Jakarta during the outbound flow, while the return is estimated at 3.4 million vehicles. “The outbound flow has passed, alhamdulillah, it was quite dense but all stakeholders, under the control of the National Police Chief, managed the outbound flow well,” he said. To handle the second phase of the return flow, Polri has prepared various flexible traffic engineering scenarios, including the possibility of re-implementing the one-way system. “If the parameters at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate reach nearly 4,000 vehicles, we might also implement One Way. But if it’s still below 3,800 or 2,500, we can still use the lanes towards Jakarta and towards Trans Java,” he said. In addition, Korlantas is optimising the use of functional toll roads in various areas, such as Japek Selatan in West Java to Bocimi in Sukabumi, to reduce the traffic load on main routes. “The Republic of Indonesia Police are still carrying out intensified routine activities, so to speak, KRYD (Intensified Routine Activities). So all members are still in the field to anticipate public order and security, including the second return flow,” he said.
