4,000 families to be resettled

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: More than 4,000 families from
Java, Bali and West Nusa Tenggara will be resettled in this
province during the 1995/96 fiscal year.

Head of the provincial transmigration office, Nadjamuddin,
said the settlers would be employed in agricultural projects
aimed at reducing the province's dependence on other provinces
for rice.

According to Nadjamuddin, the transmigrants would be resettled
in the regencies of Pasir, Bulungan, Kutai and Berau, and
thousands of hectares of forested land in those regions will be
converted into farms and plantations. Up to now, over 56,750
families from Java, West Nusa Tenggara and Bali have been
resettled in the province, Antara reported. rms)
