37 brothels demolished

JAKARTA (JP): Municipal security and order officers demolished
37 buildings used as brothels in the Kalijodo red-light district
in West Jakarta on Thursday.

"The buildings were being used as brothels by 29 pimps and
more than 350 prostitutes," Karsidin, head of West Jakarta's
security and order agency office, told Antara.

He said public parks will be developed on the land where the
brothels used to stand.

Karsidin told the now homeless pimps and prostitutes to
immediately abandon the profession and seek other lawful jobs
which are allowed by religion.

"Joining the state-sponsored transmigration program is
another alternative for them," he said. (bas)
