35 hospitalized by poisoned food

BANYUMAS, Central Java: At least 35 residents of the Rancamaya and Panembangan villages were rushed to hospital on Monday after eating poisoned meals during a circumcision party.

Seven of the victims are receiving intensive medical treatment. They are Ahmad Taroji, Solekhah, Sanrakim, Muntahar, Wadimin, Winoto and Subur.

The victims vomited but were saved after drinking coconut water and receiving traditional medicine.

Chief of the Banyumas police precinct Lt. Col. Agus Yudhanto said the police were investigating the case. He said leftovers from the poisoned meal were sent to the police laboratory.

Police are also examining utensils, cooking kits, raw materials of the meals and rice taken from host Sudiro's home. (wah)
