Hundreds of inmates at Sukamiskin Class I Prison in Bandung, West Java, have received special remission for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. Former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo is one of the recipients of this sentence reduction.

Hundreds of wards at Sukamiskin Prison obtained special remission in commemoration of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. This policy is part of the national programme by the Directorate General of Corrections, which provides sentence reductions for Muslim inmates across Indonesia.

At Sukamiskin Prison, the event began with the performance of Eid al-Fitr prayers, followed by the distribution of remission to inmates who have met the administrative and substantive requirements. Additionally, the prison authorities opened family visitation services with strict supervision.

The Head of Sukamiskin Prison, Fajar Nurcahyo, stated that out of a total of 407 Muslim inmates, 307 individuals received remission. Meanwhile, around 100 others did not qualify because their sentence periods were insufficient or they were still in legal proceedings.

“The amount of remission granted varies, from 15 days to one and a half months, depending on the sentence length and the inmates’ behavioural assessment,” said Fajar on Sunday (22/3/2026).

One of the remission recipients is Syahrul Yasin Limpo, who received a one-month reduction in his sentence. He was previously sentenced to 10 years in prison in a corruption case involving gratuities and extortion at the Ministry of Agriculture amounting to more than Rp44 billion.

In addition, several other corruption case inmates also received remission, along with general case inmates. Even one inmate was reported to be immediately released after receiving the sentence reduction.

However, not all inmates received remission. Former National Police Traffic Corps Chief Djoko Susilo was not among the recipients because his primary sentence has been completed and he is currently serving a subsidiary sentence.

Fajar emphasised that remission is given to inmates who meet the criteria, such as good behaviour, no rule violations, and active participation in prison rehabilitation programmes. These programmes include religious activities, skills training such as sewing, baking, agriculture, and boat building.

“The Eid al-Fitr atmosphere is also utilised to strengthen ties between inmates and their families through visitation services open for three days,” he said.
