3.5 Million Vehicles Predicted to Traverse Tangerang-Merak Toll Road During 2026 Eid Holiday Return Migration
ASTRA Infra Toll Road Tangerang-Merak has predicted that approximately 3.5 million four-wheeled vehicles will traverse the Tangerang-Merak toll road during the return migration and homecoming period for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri/2026.
Uswatun Hasanah, Head of Corporate Communications & Sustainability Management at ASTRA Infra Toll Road Tangerang-Merak, stated that the figure represents the accumulated volume of vehicles from 10 days before Eid (H-10) until 10 days after Eid (H+10).
“From H-10 through to H+10, we are predicting approximately 3.5 million vehicles will traverse the toll road,” said Uswatun on Tuesday, 17 March.
She noted that this figure represents an increase of approximately 2.8 per cent compared to the return migration period in 2025, which recorded approximately 3.4 million vehicles.
According to Hasanah, the peak return migration traffic on the Tangerang-Merak toll road is estimated to occur on 19 March 2026. The majority of vehicles consist of holiday travellers heading to Sumatra Island via Merak Port.
“Looking at traffic trends on the Tangerang-Merak toll route, the average flow is directed towards Merak Port. At Merak Port itself, the peak is estimated to occur between 18 and 19 March 2026,” she noted.
In response to the anticipated surge in vehicle volume, the company has prepared several preventative measures, including deploying additional toll gate staff to streamline transactions.
“We are also adding tandem booths and mobile readers. The focus is on three toll gates: Cikupa, Cilegon Timur, and Merak,” she explained.
Additionally, patrol officers, ambulances, and towing vehicles have been stationed at strategic points throughout the toll road to support traffic flow and emergency response.
From an infrastructure perspective, the company has also deployed maintenance personnel, including drainage and road repair teams, to anticipate potential disruptions along the toll road.
“We have also stationed drainage and patching personnel in case there is potential damage to the road surface. This is to ensure the safety of road users,” she stated.
