The implementation of the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return traffic was deemed to have run relatively smoothly and under control, with several indicators showing changes compared to the previous year. This was stated by Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo during his inspection of the Jasamarga Tollroad Command Centre (JMTC) in Jatiasih, Bekasi, West Java, on Monday, 30 March 2026.

The inspection was conducted as part of the evaluation of toll road services during the Eid period, including aspects of traffic, safety, and the effectiveness of infrastructure management.

“Overall, this year’s Eid homecoming and return traffic ran smoothly and under control. We also observed improvements in terms of safety, which is an important indicator of the success of infrastructure service provision,” he said, as quoted from a press release on Monday.

He noted that traffic management during the period involved coordination between the Ministry of Public Works, the Toll Road Regulatory Body (BPJT), and Toll Road Business Entities (BUJT), including PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk, supported by technology-based monitoring systems.

“Strengthening the monitoring system through JMTC, including the addition of CCTV at various strategic points, has greatly assisted in making quick decisions on the ground. This has directly contributed to improved safety and smoother traffic flow,” he added.

Jasa Marga monitoring data recorded a traffic volume exiting Jakarta of 3.25 million vehicles during the Eid period. This figure increased by 18.4 percent compared to normal conditions and 2.3 percent compared to Eid 2025. Meanwhile, the volume of vehicles returning to Jakarta was recorded at 2.98 million, or an increase of 10.8 percent from normal conditions.

The peak homecoming traffic occurred on H-3, or 18 March 2026, with 270,315 vehicles, up 4.6 percent from the previous year. The peak return traffic occurred on H+3, or 24 March 2026, with 256,338 vehicles, lower than the previous year and initial projections.

In terms of travel time, the return traffic was recorded at 5 hours 12 minutes, or 3.8 percent faster than in 2025. Meanwhile, homecoming travel time reached 5 hours 46 minutes, an increase of 2.6 percent in line with the high vehicle volume.

On the safety aspect, the number of accidents during the 2026 Eid period was recorded at 51 incidents, down 2 percent from the previous year. The number of victims was 60 people, a 34 percent decrease. Fatalities were recorded at 2 people, a 60 percent reduction compared to last year.
