273 Landfill Operators Sanctioned by the Ministry of Environment, Repeat Offenders Could Face Article 114
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Ministry of Environment (KLH) has issued administrative sanctions to 273 operators of final waste processing sites (TPA). Failure to comply with these sanctions may result in stricter legal enforcement.
The Deputy for Law Enforcement (Gakkum) of the KLH/Environmental Control Agency (BPLH), Rizal Irawan, at the National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) on Waste Management 2026 in Jakarta, Thursday (26/2/2026), stated that as of January 2026, his office had issued administrative sanctions to 273 TPA operators.
Of this number, 231 TPA operators were asked to stop the practice of open dumping, 22 TPAs were ordered to cease operations, and 20 regional governments were asked to have their own TPAs.
“We start with administrative sanctions. We give them time depending on the severity. Some have 30 days, 90 days, 180 days, and so on. Then, when that time is up, our team will come down for the second time to check whether the administrative sanctions we have given have been complied with or not,” explained Rizal.
Throughout 2025, administrative sanctions were given to 250 TPA operators. In January 2026, the Deputy for Law Enforcement of the KLH again issued sanctions to 23 TPA operators.
