256 Police Personnel Deployed to Secure Lebaran Exodus and Nyepi 2026
Tabanan Police Resort has deployed 256 personnel to secure the Lebaran exodus coinciding with the Balinese Hindu New Year (Nyepi) celebrations. The security operation, known as “Operation Ketupat Agung 2026”, runs for 13 days from 13 to 25 March 2026.
Tabanan Police Chief AKBP I Putu Bayu Pati stated that security measures have been reinforced because both Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr fall within a close timeframe, potentially increasing public mobility for holiday travels and tourism activities.
“We are anticipating various potential risks, such as traffic congestion, traffic accidents, and threats to public security and order,” said Bayu Pati on Sunday, 15 March 2026.
The increased tourism during the holiday period is also a concern for authorities, particularly regarding the circulation of illicit alcohol and narcotics, which could trigger public disorder.
Kompol I Made Tama, Head of Operations at Tabanan Police Resort, stated that security efforts extend beyond police personnel, involving multiple agencies to support operational effectiveness.
The operation includes five security checkpoints positioned at strategically important locations: a service post at Selabih Beach in West Selemadeg District, an integrated post at Adipura Statue Police Station in Tabanan District, checkpoints covering tourist sites such as Tanah Lot and Ulun Danu Beratan temples, and a checkpoint near Al Huda Mosque in Kediri District, which sits on the main exodus route.
“The placement of these checkpoints is based on mapping of vulnerable points likely to experience increased activity during the extended holiday period. Officers are expected to provide services whilst ensuring public safety during the exodus and major religious celebrations,” concluded Made Tama.
