235 Inmates in East Nusa Tenggara Receive Remission, One Immediately Freed
The East Nusa Tenggara Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections has granted special Eid al-Fitr remission to 235 inmates across all prisons and detention centres in East Nusa Tenggara. Among the hundreds of inmates, only one was immediately released.
The Head of the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections, Ketut Akbar Herry Achjar, explained that the remission was given to inmates who met administrative and substantive requirements. These include good behaviour, active participation in rehabilitation programmes, and having served their sentence period in accordance with applicable provisions.
“The amount of remission granted varies, from 15 days to two months, depending on the length of the sentence served,” said Akbar, in a press release received by detikBali on Sunday (22/3/2026).
He emphasised that the granting is part of a rehabilitation policy oriented towards the recovery and social reintegration of inmates.
“The granting of this Special Eid al-Fitr Remission is a form of the state’s appreciation for inmates who have shown consistent behavioural change,” he added.
Akbar explained that remission is an important instrument in encouraging rehabilitation efforts, so that inmates are ready to return to society as better and more responsible individuals.
According to him, the Eid al-Fitr moment is an opportune time to strengthen values of reflection, introspection, and self-improvement for all inmates.
Akbar explained that with this remission, it is hoped that inmates will be increasingly motivated to continue behaving well and participating optimally in rehabilitation programmes.
“So that when they return to society, they can contribute positively and not repeat criminal acts in the future,” he stated.
Meanwhile, one inmate with the initials TI expressed gratitude for being able to breathe free air again. “I am very grateful to get this opportunity, especially during the Eid al-Fitr moment. This is a new beginning to improve myself, return to my family, and live a better life,” he said.
