232,000 Homebound Travellers Have Left Bali via Gilimanuk, Queues Still Stretching
Homebound travellers departing Bali through Gilimanuk Port, Jembrana Regency, have surged dramatically through to five days before Eid. The latest data shows 232,640 people have crossed to Ketapang Port, East Java, since the ten-day-before-Eid period.
Based on monitoring as of five days before Eid, Monday (16 March 2026), traffic flow heading towards Gilimanuk Port from the east (Denpasar) experienced lengthy queues extending 16 kilometres from the port entrance. Meanwhile, queues from Buleleng direction reached 3 kilometres, dedicated to accommodating large trucks.
Data from Gilimanuk Command Post recorded 232,640 people crossing to Java Island during the ten-to-six-days-before-Eid period (11-15 March 2026). The total number of vehicles departing Bali reached 74,762 units.
Specifically during the 24-hour period six days before Eid (15 March 2026), 80,416 people were recorded crossing. This figure jumped sharply by 33.8% compared to the same period last year, which only reached 60,099 people.
“The total number of vehicles crossing from Bali to Java on the sixth day before Eid was recorded at 25,885 units, up 35.4% compared to last year’s 19,122 units,” stated Bintang Felfian, Public Relations Manager of ASDP Ketapang Branch, in a written statement on Monday.
The most significant surge occurred in motorcycles. On this sixth day before Eid, 18,306 motorcycle units were recorded leaving the Island of Bali. This figure jumped 52.7% compared to last year’s realisation of only 11,987 units.
To anticipate this congestion, port authorities have intensively operated dozens of ferry fleets. “Within the last 24-hour period, there were 247 sailing trips at Gilimanuk Port and 255 trips at Ketapang Port to serve homebound travellers,” concluded Bintang.
