Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Jakarta Provincial Government and related agencies have conducted emission tests on 23,754 motor vehicles at various locations across the capital at the start of 2026.

“In 2026, total four-wheeled vehicles that have undergone emission testing reached 22,753, while two-wheeled vehicles numbered 1,001,” said Tiyana Brotoadi, head of the Environmental Pollution Prevention Subgroup of the Jakarta Environment Agency (DLH), when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday.

Tiyana said the emissions tests were conducted at licensed locations and this activity is part of air pollution control efforts, especially in Jakarta.

Of the total 22,753 four-wheeled vehicles tested, 22,602 passed and 151 did not pass. For the 1,001 two-wheeled vehicles tested, 793 passed and 208 did not pass.

“As of 2026, there have been no tilang penalties for vehicles that did not pass the emission test,” said Tiyana.

Meanwhile, referring to 2025 data, almost 50 vehicles had been fined for failing to pass the emission test, with fines ranging from Rp700 thousand to Rp16 million.

The emission tests were conducted to measure public compliance, especially vehicle owners, with engine combustion efficiency and pollutant levels produced.

On the other hand, the government aims to raise public awareness about their contribution to air quality. The obligation to test vehicle emissions is enshrined in Governor Regulation (Pergub) Jakarta No. 66 of 2020.

She emphasised that law enforcement is needed to control air pollution.

However, given that vehicles moving within Jakarta are not only owned by Jakarta residents but also come from outside Jakarta who may not have the same regulation, emission testing is also conducted in border areas.
