The first wave of evacuated Indonesian citizens (WNI) from conflict zones in Iran finally arrived in the country via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Tuesday, 10 March 2026. Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security Djamari Chaniago emphasised that their return represents concrete evidence of state presence in protecting its citizens amid international emergency situations.

A total of 22 Indonesian citizens were successfully repatriated after undertaking air travel through a transit route in Baku, Azerbaijan. The evacuation process was conducted following the escalation of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East region in recent times.

“The state is present to protect all Indonesian citizens wherever they are located. This step represents concrete manifestation of the government’s commitment to provide maximum protection. The safety of citizens remains our top priority,” Djamari stated in his statement on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

Djamari appreciated the swift action by Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian representatives abroad who have been conducting intensive monitoring in the conflict zone. The government ensured all evacuation stages were carried out through strict coordination to guarantee the safety of travel routes.

Although 22 Indonesian citizens have arrived safely, the government emphasised that the evacuation process has not concluded. Monitoring of the security situation in the conflict zone will continue to be conducted systematically to determine the next stages of repatriation.

The government urged Indonesian citizens currently in affected Middle East conflict zones to report themselves immediately and maintain communication with Indonesian embassies or representative offices.

“Subsequent evacuation stages will be implemented promptly for Indonesian citizens still in affected areas. We request citizens to continue coordinating to ensure the smooth repatriation process,” Djamari added.
