Jakarta – Twenty-two of 32 Indonesian citizens (WNI) evacuated from Iran have now arrived in Indonesia.

According to a government communications agency (Bakom) statement on Wednesday 11 March 2026, the 22 WNI arrived safely at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Tuesday 10 March 2026 at 18:00 WIB.

The Indonesian government conducted the evacuation due to deteriorating security conditions in Iran following US and Israeli coalition strikes since late February.

The first evacuation wave successfully returned 22 Indonesian citizens. Those participating in Evacuation Wave I comprised 10 workers, 1 educator/journalist, 14 students, 2 migrant workers, and 5 tourists.

According to records from the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, 329 Indonesian citizens are registered as being in Iran, with the majority holding student status and concentrated primarily in Qom city, whilst the remainder are migrant workers and expatriates.

These Indonesian citizens will subsequently receive assistance from regional authorities to continue their journeys to their respective home areas.

Foreign Minister Sugiono welcomed the 22 returning citizens at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Cengkareng.

“We extend a warm welcome back to Indonesia and congratulations on reuniting with your families,” said Sugiono when greeting the Indonesian citizens at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

The government continues monitoring security developments in the Middle East to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens.

“Since the conflict began, the Foreign Ministry together with Indonesian missions in the Middle East have maintained close coordination to monitor the situation, conduct census of Indonesian citizens, and discuss contingency measures,” the Foreign Minister added.
