Governor of Banten Andra Soni met and farewelled 21 young farmers for an internship in Japan. He cautioned the young individuals to return to Banten and not instead seek employment in Japan.

The meeting between Andra and the young farmers took place at the Banten Provincial State Building in Serang City on Thursday (9/4/2026). Andra conversed with them and expressed hope that they would return to develop Banten’s agriculture.

“After returning, they must build it up; don’t end up working in offices or staying there,” Andra stated during the meeting.

To reporters, Andra mentioned that there is already a commitment between the Banten Provincial Government (Pemprov), as the funding body, and the farmers. The Pemprov Banten requires these farmers to return to Banten and practise the agricultural knowledge they acquire.

“They have built a commitment and made a work agreement, a stamped statement that is sufficient. And their spirit is indeed enthusiastic about pursuing efforts in the agricultural field,” Andra said after the meeting.

Andra requested the Agriculture Office and other parties to prepare workable land for them. Thus, the young farmers will not be confused upon returning from Japan.

“It just remains for the Banten Provincial Government to prepare programmes and a good ecosystem so that these alumni can be empowered,” he said.

Meanwhile, Acting Head of the Banten Provincial Agriculture Office, Nasir, stated that some farmers will intern for 11 months, and others for 26 months. They come from all regions in Banten Province.

“They will focus on all aspects of agriculture in Japan, particularly perhaps in the horticulture sector, food crops, and livestock. Hopefully, they will gain sufficient experience so that this can advance Banten Province’s agriculture,” he said.
