JAKARTA - The spokesperson for Indonesia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Maria Assegaff, stated that 208 pilgrims have been referred to hospitals in Saudi Arabia.

“Pilgrims referred to Saudi Arabian hospitals number 208, with 76 still under treatment,” Maria said during an online press conference via the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah RI’s YouTube account on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

Maria explained that temperatures in Madinah and Makkah today range from 37 to 39 degrees Celsius.

“Discipline in maintaining physical condition is indeed very important so that pilgrims can perform their worship optimally and more devoutly,” she said.

“From arrivals in Madinah, 219 batches with 85,039 pilgrims and 873 staff have arrived and occupied the prepared accommodations,” she added.

The movement of pilgrims from Madinah to Makkah is also taking place gradually to prepare for the peak of the hajj.

“Up to now, 68 batches with 26,037 pilgrims and 272 staff have arrived in Makkah to perform the obligatory umrah series and prepare for the peak of the hajj worship,” Maria continued.

Maria assured that the entire process is being carried out in a coordinated manner with supervision by staff to ensure the comfort, security, and safety of the pilgrims.

“We wish to express our thanks to all hajj pilgrims who have been orderly and complied with the instructions of the staff,” she added.

She hopes that this cooperation can continue to be maintained until the end of the hajj organisation, both at embarkation points, batches, and in Saudi Arabia.

“Compliance and collaboration are indeed the main keys to the smooth running of this year’s hajj worship,” she emphasised.
