Jakarta — The Metropolitan Police Chief of Metro Jaya, Irjen Pol Asep Edi Suheri, reported that the Metro Jaya Police (covering the greater Jakarta region) handled approximately 2,706 cases of violence against women and children throughout 2025.

“Throughout 2025, Metro Jaya Police handled roughly 2,706 cases of violence against women and children within our jurisdiction. That is quite substantial,” Asep remarked whilst attending the launch of the Police-School Community Partnership Forum (FKPMS) at SMK Negeri 1 Jakarta in Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (11 March 2026).

Asep highlighted several concerning incidents involving children in school environments. These included a bombing at SMA Negeri 72 in North Jakarta in November 2025, carried out by a student, which resulted in numerous injuries. Beyond Jakarta, bullying cases were reported in Garut and Denpasar.

“There was also the throwing of Molotov cocktails by students in Kubu Raya—there was a similar incident in Jakarta in August—and sexual crimes against children in Tabalong. There are many such cases,” Asep stated.

The police chief also noted that the number of drug-related suspects from the student age group was equally alarming. These incidents, according to Asep, demonstrate that child protection in educational settings remains a serious challenge.

“These events send a very clear message that issues of child safety and protection are increasingly real, and addressing them cannot be done in isolation,” Asep said.

In response, Asep emphasised the importance of the Forum for Police-School-Community Partnership in strengthening prevention, early detection, and resolution of issues within schools. Through this forum, communication and coordination among school staff, parents, the community, and police can be reinforced, enabling potential risks to be identified early.

“They can be properly mapped and handled quickly and appropriately,” the police chief added.
