$1b pulp and paper project

JAKARTA (JP): The US$1 billion pulp and paper project of PT Kiani Kertas in Berau regency, East Kalimantan, is now 80 percent completed, according to Machnan R. Kamaluddin, president of the company.

Kamaluddin was quoted by Antara as saying in Samarinda yesterday that the huge project, which is being built on a 3,400 hectare site, is slated to come on stream early next year.

The paper project is designed for an annual capacity of 500,000 tons. PT Kiani Kertas is a unit of the business group run of timber tycoon Mohammad (Bob) Hasan. (vin)
