As many as 17 foreign investors are investing in shoe factories in Indonesia this year, an association says.
Indonesian Shoe Producer Association (Aprisindo) chairman Eddy Wijanarko said five of the 17 investors had begun to build the factories.
“One factory with a capacity of 1 million shoes a month could cost US$60 million. It could absorb 10,000 workers,” he said as quoted by kontan.co.id on Wednesday.
The shoe factories will be built in West Java cities of Tangerang, Bekasi, Bandung, and Sukabumi, as well as several cities in East Java.
Eddy said the quality of Indonesia-made shoes was improving and its exports had reached 148 countries.
This year, the shoe production could hit 400 million shoes, he added.
