169 aliens deported

PEKANBARU, Riau: The local government has deported 169 foreigners for violating immigration laws, an official said yesterday.

Chief of the local office of the ministry of justice Zaiman Nurmatias said that the aliens' offenses ranged from overstay and criminal actions to serious illness.

Malaysians top the list with 97 violators, followed by Filipinos 7 and Finish 4, he said.

He said that local immigration authorities have recorded at least 8,800 illegal job seekers from Malaysia being deported through Pekanbaru.

In Antara's report, he said the job seekers arrived at different ports and it was impossible to record their actual number. (pan)
