Jakarta, VIVA – The case of alleged sexual harassment implicating 16 students from the Faculty of Law at the University of Indonesia (FH UI) has entered a new phase. Metro Jaya Regional Police have begun gathering evidence and opening communications with the campus authorities, following the emergence of allegations of improper activities in a group chat. Although no police report has been received yet, the authorities have assured that they will not remain idle. The relevant directorate has already taken initial steps to investigate the alleged violations. Head of Public Relations Division of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Police Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated, “The PPA and PPO Directorates have collected several pieces of evidence, prepared information reports related to coordination with the university, so we from Metro Jaya Regional Police will certainly open avenues for this incident,” he told reporters on Thursday, 16 April 2026. The police are also taking a proactive approach by directly coordinating with the University of Indonesia, while awaiting any potential official reports from victims. “As of today, Metro Jaya Regional Police has not officially received a police report. However, the steps taken by Metro Jaya Regional Police, particularly the PPA and PPO Directorates, have already coordinated with the relevant university,” he said. Amid this process, the police are also focusing on victim protection. Coordination with legal advisors is being conducted to ensure victims receive proper support. “But we will also institutionally respect that the campus or university is taking internal steps and stages. We urge everyone to respect the space currently being handled by the university,” he added. Metro Jaya Regional Police also reminded the public not to disseminate victims’ identities, while encouraging sexual violence victims to report bravely. “We also appreciate all sexual violence victims to speak up, to report, to convey to the public, to convey to the police, and we are confident that we will all provide positive support. Especially Metro Jaya Regional Police will be present in law enforcement for cases of harassment and sexual violence, both verbal and digital,” he said.
