15-Hour US & Iran Negotiations in Pakistan: Here’s the Outcome

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Peace negotiations between the United States (US) and Iran lasted up to 15 hours in Islamabad, Pakistan. The talks entered the second day in the early hours of Sunday after delegations from both countries continued discussions past midnight at a luxury hotel in Pakistan’s capital.

The negotiators met without public spotlight, while international journalists awaited developments at a convention centre.

US Vice President JD Vance directly led Washington’s delegation. He became the highest-ranking American official to meet directly with Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. This meeting occurred just days after the US and Israel halted the war with Iran that had shaken the Middle East region and the global economy.

Iranian media reported that both sides took a break ahead of dawn. Tehran also accused Washington of making “excessive demands” regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

US President Donald Trump stated that “in-depth negotiations” were underway, but in an interaction with reporters on Saturday, he expressed indifference to the outcome.

He firmly stated that the United States had won on the battlefield after killing Iranian leaders and destroying key military infrastructure.

“Whether we reach an agreement or not, it doesn’t matter to me. The reason is because we’ve already won,” Trump said, quoted from an AFP report, Sunday (12/4/2026).

Nevertheless, Pakistani officials involved in the process said the talks were moving in a positive direction.

“The discussions are moving positively and the overall atmosphere is conducive,” the official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Unlike previous negotiations, the US and Iranian delegations met directly this time without a mediator. Iran reportedly requested Vance’s presence due to his high position and his initially reported stance against war.

The US delegation also included Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. Meanwhile, the Iranian delegation, numbering around 70 people, was led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and included Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
