15 Countries with the Largest Agricultural Land, Indonesia Not Included
Agricultural land is a crucial pillar of global food security. Worldwide, the total agricultural land area exceeds 18 million square miles, spanning regions from Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
New data compiled by Visual Capitalist from the World Bank and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) identifies the countries with the largest agricultural land areas globally.
Below is a list of the 15 countries with the largest agricultural land areas in the world based on their current total agricultural land:
China’s agricultural land reaches approximately 2 million square miles. This vast agricultural area aligns with China’s role as a major force in the global agricultural sector. About one-fifth of the country’s population works in agriculture. Furthermore, China is both the largest producer and consumer of various global agricultural commodities, ranging from rice and wheat to vegetables.
The list demonstrates that countries with extensive agricultural land are distributed across various continents. Asia is represented by China, India, and Kazakhstan, whilst the Americas include the United States, Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico.
Despite being recognised as an agrarian nation, Indonesia does not appear on the list of the 15 countries with the largest agricultural land areas globally. This is due to Indonesia’s relatively smaller total land area compared to nations on the list, as well as its archipelagic geography, which results in smaller agricultural land distribution compared to continental countries.
