A forest and land fire (karhutla) has struck Dumai City, Riau Province. The fire is spreading across 18 hotspots in Dumai Timur Sub-district and Medang Kampai Sub-district. Dumai Police Chief AKBP Angga Febrian Herlambang stated that his team, along with relevant agencies, is continuously working to extinguish the fire at the hotspot locations. “We, together with relevant stakeholders, are still making efforts to extinguish the fire at the sites,” said AKBP Angga in his statement on Wednesday (25/3/2026). Angga explained that in Dumai Timur Sub-district there are 8 hotspots, while in Medang Kampai Sub-district there are 6 hotspots. “Based on the Lancang Kuning Dashboard (DLK) application, there are currently 8 hotspots in Dumai Timur Sub-district and 6 hotspots in Medang Kampai Sub-district,” he said. Meanwhile, for Dumai Barat Sub-district, Dumai Selatan, Bukit Kapur, Sungai Sembilan, and Dumai Kota, no hotspots have been reported so far, or they are clear of hot spots. The extinguishing efforts in Medang Kampai Sub-district are led by Riau Police Operations Assistant Commander Kombes Ino Haryanto, involving combined personnel from TNI, Polri, Fire Department, Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Mandala Agni, Fire Care Community (MPA), Pertamina, and local residents. “The fire has been occurring since six days ago and we are still working to extinguish it,” he added. AKBP Angga said the extinguishing efforts are hampered by the still quite hot weather and strong winds at the location. The joint team is also facing challenges with water sources that are quite far away. “Meanwhile, in the field, the water source is quite far and is starting to dwindle,” he said. Dumai Police urge all levels of society not to open land by burning, given the increasingly hot weather conditions that can accelerate the spread of fire. “We are continuously conducting intensive monitoring 24 hours a day through the DLK application. The current weather is monitored as partly cloudy, which is highly potential for new fire points to emerge if not vigilant,” he concluded.
