14,132 Potholes on East Java National Roads Guaranteed to be Smooth Before Eid
Jakarta – A total of 13,306 of 14,132 potholes on national roads in East Java Province have been addressed, with all repairs targeted for completion by 10 days before Eid 2026 to ensure smooth traffic flow during the holiday exodus.
Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo conducted a direct inspection of national road network preparedness in East Java to confirm readiness and safety for the 2026 Eid travel season.
“All national road repairs must be completed by 10 days before Eid. We must ensure national roads in East Java are in safe and comfortable condition for the public, especially two-wheeled vehicle riders,” Hanggodo stated according to an official statement on Monday (2 March 2026).
Road marking work is also being accelerated to enhance safety and comfort for road users ahead of the holiday travel period.
The total length of national roads in East Java reaches 2,261.68 kilometres distributed across 358 segments and supported by 973 bridges with a combined length of 34,807.36 metres.
In general, the majority of segments are in good to fair condition with a stability rate above 80 per cent.
Hanggodo emphasised that all repair work must be completed before the holiday travel season begins.
In addition to pothole repairs, road quality strengthening is being carried out to maintain optimal stability throughout the Eid period.
The East Java-Bali Regional Road Centre has identified several congestion and traffic accident-prone locations, including the Bangkalan-Sampang boundary segment and the Alas Baluran area in Banyuwangi.
At these locations, enhanced surveillance has been implemented, warning signs have been added, and intensive coordination conducted with police and relevant agencies to maintain traffic flow and road user safety.
Personnel and equipment have been mobilised to ensure rapid response in case of disruptions caused by extreme weather.
The East Java-Bali Regional Road Centre is also establishing Eid travel command posts at various East Java regional units as unified monitoring and coordination centres.
With infrastructure, personnel, and equipment prepared, the Public Works Ministry ensures public connectivity and travel safety are maintained throughout the Eid period.
