The Judicial Commission (KY) is holding a quality selection for candidates for Supreme Court justices and candidates for ad hoc human rights (HAM) and corruption (Tipikor) justices at the Supreme Court (MA) for 2026 over two days, Tuesday-Wednesday, 5 and 6 May 2026, in Jakarta.

KY member and Chair of the Judge Recruitment Division, Andi Muhammad Asrun, stated that one candidate for Supreme Court justice from the Civil Chamber, one from the Criminal Chamber, two HAM ad hoc justice candidates at the MA, and three Tipikor ad hoc justice candidates at the MA have withdrawn.

Thus, the total participants in the quality selection for Supreme Court justices number 137, with 18 HAM ad hoc justice candidates at the MA and 58 Tipikor ad hoc justice candidates at the MA.

The breakdown for the 137 Supreme Court justice candidates consists of 64 from the Criminal Chamber, 27 from the Civil Chamber, 35 from the Religious Chamber, and 11 from the State Administrative (TUN) Chamber, specifically tax.

“This quality selection comprehensively measures mastery of knowledge, judicial technical abilities, and depth of understanding of candidates in the legal field according to the chamber formation they are applying for,” said Asrun, as quoted from the official Judicial Commission website on Tuesday (5/5).

Meanwhile, KY Chair Abdul Chair Ramadhan hopes that the entire selection series will produce Supreme Court justice candidates and ad hoc justices at the MA who possess integrity, capacity, and capability.

“We hope that the entire selection series organised here can produce justice candidates who are not only excellent in knowledge and judicial techniques but also have resilient and commendable character, good integrity, strong personality, and high commitment to upholding the law and justice,” Abdul stated.

On the first day of the quality selection, candidates will undergo objective tests and writing assignments.

On the second day, candidates will be tested on their ability to resolve legal cases and study the Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Judge Behaviour (KEPPH).

This selection also includes evaluation of professional works specifically for Supreme Court justice candidates submitted after passing the administrative stage.

The selection process is conducted in accordance with the MA’s request to fill 11 vacant justice positions, consisting of two from the Civil Chamber, four from the Criminal Chamber, two from the Religious Chamber, three from the State Administrative Chamber, specifically tax, as well as two HAM ad hoc justices at the MA and one Tipikor ad hoc justice at the MA.

KY, explained Abdul, is opening opportunities for public participation to provide information or opinions regarding the track records of the Supreme Court justice candidates, such as integrity, capacity, behaviour, and character of the Supreme Court justice candidates and ad hoc justice candidates at the MA.

“The public with clear identities is expected to provide written information or opinions about the track records (integrity, capacity, behaviour, and character) of Supreme Court justice candidates and ad hoc justice candidates at the MA for 2026 no later than 5 June 2026, to the email address: [email protected] or the KY Office at Jalan Kramat Raya No. 57, Central Jakarta,” he concluded.
