125 netted in ID inspection

At least 125 people found to be traveling without
identification cards (KTP) were apprehended by the Central
Jakarta population office team on Monday.

The citizenship inspection took place in the afternoon along
Jl. Percetakan Negara, Central Jakarta, checking motorists and
people riding public transportation for proper identification.

Those who were found without proper identification were
subjected to an on-the-spot trial held at the office of the
state-owned salt factory, PN Garam, which was headed by judge Leo
Hutagalung of the Central Jakarta district court.

Offenders were either fined between Rp 11,000 (US$5) and Rp
25,000, or incarcerated for five days.

As quoted by Pelita the head of the Central Jakarta population
office, H Nurzul Noor, explained that the operation is designed
