A 12-year-old is suspected of abandoning their newborn sister in a nasi uduk cart in front of a house on Pejaten Raya, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on the afternoon of Tuesday (3 March 2026).

The baby girl is estimated to be two days old, based on the note written by an individual identified only as Z, who is suspected of deliberately abandoning the infant at the scene.

‘The baby girl is estimated to be two days old based on the writing on a piece of paper written by someone with the initials Z who is believed to have deliberately neglected the baby at the scene,’ Anggiat Sinambela, the Pasar Minggu Police Chief, said in a statement on Tuesday. ‘My sister was born on 2 March 2026,’ the note reads.

Z explains that their mother died while giving birth. Therefore, they appeal to anyone who finds the baby to be willing to care for her.

‘Assalamualaikum, Sir/Madam who finds my sister, I, Z, would like to ask for help to care for my sister, because my mother died during childbirth,’ the note states.

At the end, Z expresses hope that the baby will be raised with love and not have a future like his own.

‘Treat her as your own child, because I will not be able to find or visit her again, I do not want her future to be like mine. Thank you,’ it reads.

According to police, the source of the noise was traced to a nasi uduk cart parked in front of the home.

‘Saksi Dinda heard a baby’s cry coming from the direction of the cart in front of the house,’ Anggiat said.

After confirming the source of the cry, Dinda informed her mother. The baby was then brought inside the home for safeguarding before police were contacted.

In addition to the note, the bag contained baby supplies including a red can of infant formula, wet wipes, and a pair of blue baby gloves.

The baby was subsequently taken to Puskesmas Pasar Minggu for initial treatment before being handed over to the Social Service.

To date, police are still investigating the case. Officers have checked CCTV footage around the scene and have questioned a number of witnesses to uncover the incident in full.
