12 Tonnes of Special Formula 1 Edition KitKat Chocolate Vanish, Stolen by Thieves
A lorry carrying nearly 12 tonnes of KitKat chocolate has vanished without a trace. This is no ordinary chocolate; what was stolen is the highly anticipated special Formula 1 (F1) edition eagerly awaited by fans.
The incident, which took place in Europe, quickly sparked a commotion. Not only due to the material losses, but also because of the humorous responses from netizens who considered the thieves too loyal to the slogan “Have a Break, Have a KitKat”.
The event began last week when a transport lorry left Nestlé’s production site in Italy bound for Poland. However, the load containing exactly 413,793 chocolate bars never reached its destination. Nestlé confirmed via its official Instagram account on 29 March that the shipment had been stolen en route.
“We are working closely with local authorities and supply chain partners to investigate this matter,” KitKat stated in their official statement, as quoted from the Today website on Tuesday (31/3/2026). They assured that there are no concerns regarding consumer safety and that the general market supply is not disrupted by this incident.
Special edition chocolate becomes a target
The stolen chocolate holds high historical and promotional value. In 2025, KitKat officially became Formula 1’s global chocolate partner, coinciding with F1’s 75th anniversary and KitKat’s 90th anniversary. The stolen product is part of the F1 branding series, including racing car shapes moulded from milk chocolate with a crunchy filling.
Interestingly, Nestlé responded to the mishap with a unique sense of humour. According to a report from the New York Times, the company once joked that they “appreciate the extraordinary taste of those criminals,” but on the other hand, they emphasised that cargo theft is a serious issue that continues to rise for businesses of all scales.
