JAKARTA, Kompas.com - Police estimate that 11 kilograms of methamphetamine from an international network, revealed through the arrest of a fugitive in Dumai, is valued at Rp 19.8 billion.

” The methamphetamine is estimated to have an economic value of Rp 19.8 billion,” said Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, director of the Narcotics Crime Directorate at Bareskrim Polri, in a statement to journalists on Thursday (28/5/2026).

The case involves fugitive Muhammad Zaki, who was arrested by Subdirector IV of Bareskrim Polri’s narcotics unit on Sunday (24/5/2026) at 10:30 PM WIB at City Hotel in Dumai City, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Riau.

” Muhammad Zaki is known to act as a sea couriers’ intermediary and also as a storage point within the illegal narcotics trafficking network,” Eko stated.

The methamphetamine was intended to be smuggled by sea from Malaysia to Bengkalis, Riau.

The arrest began from public information regarding Zaki’s suspected involvement in an international narcotics network.

A team led by Senior Commissioner Handik Zusen, SubDirector IV of Bareskrim Polri’s narcotics unit, then conducted an investigation and surveillance on the target.

On Sunday (24/5/2026) afternoon, police received information that Zaki was in Nyerih Village, Rupat Utara Subdistrict, Bengkalis Regency, and was heading towards the RoRo Rupat-Dumai ferry terminal.

Police then followed Zaki’s movements to City Hotel Dumai and confirmed he was in room 302.

” The team subsequently arrested Muhammad Zaki and conducted a body and hotel room search,” Eko explained.

Based on initial interrogations, Zaki admitted starting work for a prisoner named Ramzi, who has been held at Dumai detention facility since 2025.

In February 2025, he received his first assignment involving the delivery of five kilograms of methamphetamine obtained from a sea courier named Iyung.

Then in May 2025, Zaki was again asked to help transport methamphetamine from Malacca to Rupat Island.

However, upon arrival, the actual amount was 11 kilograms of methamphetamine.

Currently, investigators are still developing the case to pursue other suspected members of the international narcotics trafficking network.
