The Bogor Regency Government, West Java, has taken firm action in flood mitigation efforts by demolishing 118 illegal street vendor stalls on the banks of the Angke River in Kemang District. This enforcement is part of a river and irrigation channel normalisation programme in the region. Head of Public Order at the Bogor Regency Satpol PP, Rhama Khodara, stated that the demolition operation was carried out in stages over five days, from 26 to 30 June 2026. The primary target was structures built on state land without official permits. “A total of 118 street vendor stalls were cleared and demolished. These structures were unlicensed,” Rhama said in Cibinong on Tuesday (30/6). According to data from the Bogor Regency Satpol PP, the hundreds of illegal structures were spread across three villages in Kemang District. During the operation, officers adapted the demolition method to the structure and physical condition of the buildings. “Depending on the condition of the building. Some structures were demolished using heavy equipment, while others were done manually,” Rhama explained. Rhama emphasised that the existence of these stalls violated regulations because they occupied irrigation channels and road reserves. This was considered a major obstacle to the Angke River normalisation process being pursued by the local government. “These street vendor stalls were built on irrigation channels and road reserves. So, this is also part of the effort to normalise irrigation channels to reduce flood risk,” he added. The Bogor Regency Government aims, through this land clearance, to restore smooth water flow in the Angke River and optimise the function of irrigation channels. This measure is expected to significantly minimise the potential for inundation and flooding that frequently threatens the Kemang District area during periods of high rainfall.
