JAKARTA, KOMPAS.COM – As Eid al-Fitr approaches, the provision of Bantuan Hari Raya (BHR) to online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) has once again come under scrutiny. Although some drivers have already received the disbursement of the incentive, many say the amount received does not reflect the deductions they have to bear from the app providers.

Teguh (36), an ojol driver who has been working for 11 years, says he has received the BHR disbursement. However, the amount he received is considered relatively small compared with his length of service as a driver partner.

Teguh explains that the BHR amount received by each driver is not the same. The amount depends on the driver’s performance level or account level.

“Everyone’s different for all drivers; some can get Rp400,000, Rp500,000, the maximum up to Rp900,000. The difference is in performance. There are levels. There are Jawara, Andalan, Harapan. So each level gets a different THR,” he said.

To obtain the highest amount of Rp900,000, a driver must be able to maintain the highest level, namely Jawara, for 12 full months in a year.

According to Teguh, the requirements to reach that level are not easy. Drivers must accept all orders without cancellations or rejecting orders.

“Yesterday I was Jawara only for four months, the rest I wasn’t. So I got Rp250,000. If you want Rp200,000, you must be Jawara at least four times,” he added.

Other ojol drivers, Amri (35), also said he had received BHR with a similar amount, around Rp200,000.

He believes the maximum BHR of Rp900,000 per year does not match the deductions the drivers must bear each month.

“Even we only pay the app Rp600,000 per month, deductions. The deduction comes from the Hemat programme, so indeed the app providers cannot offer programmes that improve drivers’ welfare,” he lamented.

According to Teguh, the deductions relate to a promo programme called “Hemat”. If a driver completes more than 10 orders from that service, their income will be cut by Rp20,000 per day by the app provider.

“In short, if you get more than 10 orders, the app provider takes Rp20,000 from that Hemat programme. So they seek extra money from the driver, not from the customer,” he said.
