Police officers and relevant agencies evacuated 11 babies from a house located in Padukuhan Randu Wonokerso, Hargobinangun, Pakem, Sleman. The babies had been entrusted to a midwife who assisted in their births since five months ago.

Sleman Police Resort’s Criminal Investigation Unit Head, AKP Mateus Wiwit Kustiyadi, explained that officers initially received information about the presence of around a dozen babies in a house from local village officials.

“Of course, we felt there was something odd about the 11 babies in Hargobinangun, being cared for or looked after by three people in one house,” Wiwit told reporters on Monday (11/5/2026).

Wiwit explained that the 11 babies were evacuated on Friday (8/5) afternoon along with relevant agencies. Three babies were treated at the hospital, two were taken by their parents, and the remaining six were evacuated by the Sleman Social Services Office.

“Three babies we treated at the RSUD, yesterday two babies were taken by those claiming to be their mothers. The other six babies are being cared for by social services for further handling,” he said.

He explained that the condition of the three babies is still under hospital care. However, the conditions of two babies have improved.

“That was because there was an initial illness: congenital heart disease, jaundice, and hernia. But the hernia and jaundice ones are now in normal condition,” he said.

Wiwit explained that the 11 babies were born in the Banyuraden, Gamping area, assisted by a midwife with initials ORP. It started with one mother giving birth there and then entrusting the baby to the midwife for care, possibly for humanitarian reasons and certain circumstances.

“It started with just one person giving birth there, then the first mother entrusted the baby to that midwife to be cared for, perhaps due to humanitarian reasons and certain reasons,” he said.

“From that, it developed until the other 10 gave birth there and entrusted them with reasons: some working, some still students,” he said.

The midwife had been entrusted with the babies since five months ago. She cared for the entrusted babies along with her two parents, assisted by one helper. Initially, the babies were housed in Banyuraden and moved to Pakem a week ago.

“In Pakem, only one week. Because the nature in Pakem is temporary, just for a while,” he said.

“The babies’ age range is 1 to 10 months. There are boys and girls,” he added.

detikJogja visited the location of the house used to house the 11 babies in Pakem. The house appeared deserted. In addition, baby clothes were still hanging to dry. Meanwhile, inside the house, there were several baby nappies.

Local residents remained silent when approached for interviews. Including the hamlet head, who also declined to be interviewed.
