The Garut Regency Government, through its Health Office, is conducting measles immunisation or Outbreak Response Immunisation (ORI) simultaneously at community health centres (Puskesmas) and integrated health posts (Posyandu). This immunisation effort follows the discovery of 102 people testing positive for measles based on laboratory examinations from the West Java Provincial Health Laboratory (Labkesda) until 60 people had to receive hospital treatment.

The Secretary of the Garut Regency Health Office, Yodi Sirojudin, stated that measles cases in the area have occurred since January to April, with 102 people confirmed positive for measles infection based on laboratory results from the West Java Provincial Labkesda. However, transmissions have increased, causing 60 people to receive intensive hospital care while others are gradually recovering.

“In Garut Regency, cases of measles infection are experiencing an increase, and now 60 people must receive hospital treatment. This increase in cases came after the Health Office found 102 people positive for measles based on laboratory examinations from the West Java Provincial Labkesda,” said Yodi Sirojudin on Tuesday (7/4/2026).

According to Yodi, measles cases in Garut Regency are seeing a significant increase in transmission due to 102 people testing positive for measles based on laboratory results from the West Java Provincial Labkesda. However, the rise in cases has led to 60 people undergoing hospital treatment until the other patients can gradually be cured, with no deaths recorded.

“Measles cases occurred after health workers, including those at Puskesmas, found patients seeking treatment and immediately provided intensive handling in isolation rooms. This increase is quite significant because samples sent to the West Java Provincial Labkesda Laboratory found 102 positive cases, including 60 who had to undergo treatment,” he said.

According to him, in response to the rising measles cases, the Health Office is taking steps by launching simultaneous immunisation for children, targeting 165,000 toddlers aged 9 months, 18 months up to Year 1 elementary school equivalents, regardless of prior immunisation status, as an effort to combat transmission. However, the implementation of measles immunisation or Outbreak Response Immunisation (ORI) is currently underway at Puskesmas and Posyandu.

“Health workers together with Puskesmas and Posyandu are simultaneously conducting measles immunisation or Outbreak Response Immunisation (ORI) across the region, and it has now reached 16.85 percent ORI. However, this immunisation will continue to be carried out for children so that they have immunity and are not easily infected with measles,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Section Head of the Garut Police Resort, Ipda Susilo Adhi, stated that his personnel at every police sector are monitoring activities related to measles immunisation or Outbreak Response Immunisation (ORI) conducted at puskesmas and posyandu. However, the simultaneous measles immunisation is aimed at preventing the spread of measles and suppressing extraordinary events (KLB).

“The Garut Police Resort, along with its sector units, is currently conducting monitoring and ensuring that the immunisation runs safely, orderly, and smoothly. The implementation of measles immunisation or Outbreak Response Immunisation (ORI) at Puskesmas and Posyandu serves as an effort to prevent the spread of measles and as a form of support from the Indonesian National Police towards the government’s programme to reduce measles transmission rates, including raising public awareness about the importance of immunisation for children,” he concluded.
