101 Individuals Detained for Planning May Day Disruptions in Jakarta Have Been Released
Last night, those 101 individuals had already returned to their respective homes, picked up by their families and accompanied by LBH Jakarta,” said the Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in his statement on Saturday (2/5/2026).
Senior Commissioner Budi stated that Metro Jaya Police would continue to investigate the findings of Molotov cocktails up to leaflets and action plans from those 101 individuals. He said that his side was also still probing the funding for the action plan suspected of intending to create disturbances during that May Day.
“Of course, the items found, as well as the leaflets and action plans, remain under investigation by the PMJ Gakkum Task Force,” he said.
Previously, Metro Jaya Police detained 101 individuals suspected of planning to cause chaos during the 2026 May Day celebrations in Jakarta. Police seized maps up to rundowns to incite unrest from the detained parties.
“And we found documents planning to carry out riots. They had already prepared their comrades here, clearly depicted, as can be seen on the screen, the rundown,” said the Director of Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference at Metro Jaya Police headquarters on Friday (1/5).
“It can be clearly seen that they had prepared the event rundown. So by the hour, they had prepared when they would carry out attacks or assaults, in the language here,” he added.
Iman explained that from the documents, there was an apparent flow of arrival and evacuation routes from the parties suspected of planning to cause unrest. Everything had been prepared by the alleged perpetrators.
“This has already been prepared by them. So where they come from, then what the incident would be like, and where they must return. The gathering points have already been determined by them,” he stated.
Police also seized communication devices used by the alleged perpetrators for efforts to create unrest. Officers also secured a sum of money whose giver is still being investigated.
“This is a sum of money that we successfully seized from the hands of one of the field coordinators, based on information from the individual to us that the money would be used or given to those who attend together with their group,” he said.
In conversations among the detained individuals, Iman explained that the alleged perpetrators planned to attack officers working to secure the mass action. They also used social media for provocation efforts.
“In their discussions among themselves, several facts emerged, including that they planned to pit labour union elements against each other by infiltrating during the ongoing activities,” he said.
