1,000 executives to join study programs in Taiwan
JAKARTA (JP): The government will send 1,000 executives from
small businesses and cooperatives to Taiwan this year for
apprenticeship and comparative study programs, a minister said.
"The programs, made in the spirit of the Asia Pacific Economic
Cooperation (APEC), will enable our young business people to
study Taiwan's success in developing small industrial entities,"
Ministry of Cooperatives and Small Enterprises Subiakto
Tjakrawerdaya told Commission VII of the House of Representatives
in a hearing yesterday.
The programs, which will be held every year, will be fully
financed by the Taiwanese administration and private business
parties, he said.
He explained that the programs will take several months of in-
house apprenticeship and management studies.
"We require candidates, who will take part in these programs,
to have a high standard of education and business experience," he
said.
"The candidates should be university graduates, not more than
30 years old," he said. "And we prefer unmarried candidates."
Subiakto said he had instructed provincial offices of the
Ministry of Cooperatives and Small Enterprises throughout the
country to send in their potential candidates for preliminary
screening of the programs.
"We have so far finalized the applications of 50 candidates,"
he said.
The minister said that upon completion of the preliminary
screening of candidates, his ministry will sign a memorandum of
understanding on the apprenticeship and comparative study
programs with the Taiwanese parties.
Taiwan, a member of the 18-member APEC forum, plans to provide
capital for the participants of the apprenticeship programs.
The APEC forum groups Australia, Canada, China, Chile, Hong
Kong, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, South Korea,
Taiwan and the United States as well as the six members of the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations -- Brunei, Indonesia,
Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. (fhp)
