Jakarta (ANTARA) - The West Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakbar) has deployed 100 trucks to address rubbish piles on Jalan Pangeran Tubagus Angke in Grogol Petamburan, as well as at the temporary waste disposal sites (TPSS) Jembatan Lima and Jembatan Besi in Tambora, on Saturday.

West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah stated that the rubbish buildup occurred due to technical constraints and changes in the waste disposal schedule at the Bantar Gebang Landfill (TPA).

“Yesterday, there was a technical hitch in transporting waste to Bantar Gebang, leading to an extraordinary accumulation of rubbish. However, thanks to policies from the Environment Agency and its sub-district offices, today 100 trucks have been mobilised to resolve the backlog of waste issues,” Iin said when contacted in Jakarta on Saturday.

In addition to tackling the rubbish piles, the city government is also addressing severely silted drainage channels caused by mud and waste sediments.

Iin noted that, given the area’s vulnerability to flooding from the Kali Angke overflow, they plan to hold an integrated mass community service event after Eid al-Fitr.

As a long-term measure, they will optimise the sorting of organic waste at the source, including through biopore holes along garden paths so that leaf waste no longer needs to be sent to Bantar Gebang but can instead be processed into compost and aid water infiltration.

“Leaf waste should no longer be dumped at Bantar Gebang. We will create biopore infiltration holes along garden paths. The leaf waste will be chopped and inserted there to become organic fertiliser while helping with water absorption during the rainy season,” she concluded.

Meanwhile, the Head of the West Jakarta Environmental Agency (Kasudin LH), Achmad Hariadi, explained that they have coordinated with the Tambora Environmental Task Force to implement a “blitz” strategy to accelerate cleaning efforts.

He added that this strategy was adopted to overcome fleet limitations. While conducting blitz operations at critical points like Tambora and Jelambar Baru, he assured that routine services on protocol routes would continue uninterrupted.

Regarding the buildup in Jelambar Baru, Achmad emphasised that he had issued reprimands to on-site supervisors to prevent similar incidents, noting that the area is a main transit route.

“Jelambar Baru is a priority transit point. The Mayor and I have reprimanded the task force head and supervisors to ensure it doesn’t happen again and that residents can feel comfortable once more,” he added.
