100 buses impounded every month

JAKARTA (JP): At least 100 public transportation vehicles are impounded every month in West Jakarta for allegedly violating traffic regulations, a local officer said.

Antara reported that head of the West Jakarta branch for Traffic and Land Transportation Control Agency, Loren Simatupang said yesterday the impounded vehicles are part of the 2,461 public buses and minibuses listed in the area.

Simatupang hoped that the number would fall slightly, in line with the stern enforcement of the traffic law regulation on selected roads in the city.

"All parties, including the owners, drivers and conductors of public vehicles, as well as police officers and the public, have a certain role to play in order to help improve the condition of the city's public transportation system," he said.(bsr)
