10 Passengers Trapped in MRT Lebak Bulus Lift as Power Outage Disrupts Operations
Ten people were trapped inside a lift at Lebak Bulus MRT Station following a power supply disruption that impacted operations across the entire Jakarta MRT network on Thursday (9/4) afternoon. The incident surprised passengers and added to the long list of technical issues plaguing the capital’s mass transportation system.
Head of the South Jakarta Transportation and Traffic Agency, Asril Rizal, revealed that after the incident, officers promptly deployed seven team members from the South Jakarta agency along with one truck to facilitate the evacuation process.
“Our swift action successfully evacuated the ten people without any injuries,” Asril stated, confirming that all trapped passengers were rescued safely.
The chronology of the incident began around 5:58 PM WIB, when the entire power supply at Lebak Bulus MRT Station experienced a total blackout.
The event immediately affected lift operations, which stopped midway and trapped ten passengers inside. Local security personnel attempted to provide assistance, but the lack of electricity caused initial efforts to fail.
Following an announcement from MRT Jakarta stating no power supply, officers then requested assistance from the agency’s team to handle the situation. With approval from MRT Jakarta, the lift doors were forcibly opened, allowing passengers to exit without injury.
“All passengers were successfully evacuated in a short time,” Asril added.
MRT Jakarta itself confirmed that the disruption at several stations was caused by a power supply issue from PLN. Electricity at elevated stations experienced a total blackout but has now been normalised. MRT Jakarta also emphasised that prompt handling was carried out to ensure service continuity.
