10 Million People Use Public Transport Up to H-1 Lebaran
The Ministry of Transportation recorded 10,003,583 people using public transport from 13 to 20 March 2026, or H-8 to H-1 Lebaran. Head of the Bureau of Communication and Public Information of the Ministry of Transportation, Ernita Titis Dewi, stated that this figure is higher than the same period during last year’s Lebaran. “This number shows an increase of 9.23 percent compared to the 2025 Lebaran transport of 9,158,315 people,” she said in a written statement on Saturday, 21 March 2026. The number of general passengers includes rail transport with 2,981,945 people, up 13.22 percent from 2,633,878 people; air transport with 2,190,282 people, up 3.05 percent from 2,125,523 people; ferry crossings with 2,482,303 people, up 14.78 percent from 2,162,708 people; land transport with 1,587,060 people, up 9.18 percent from 1,453,679 people; and sea transport with 761,993 people. On H-1, Titis said, vehicles exiting the Jakarta toll gate were recorded at 117,016 units, while those entering reached 66,210 units. The total movement of vehicles exiting and entering at the Jabodetabek toll gates was 248,349 units, and at non-Jabodetabek toll gates, 236,758 units. Then, on arterial roads, vehicles exiting Jabodetabek were recorded at 474,454 units, and those entering at 360,479 units. “Meanwhile, vehicle movement on non-Jabodetabek arterial roads reached 491,901 units,” she said. Based on daily data from the Ministry of Transportation, the departure movement of public transport passengers on H-1 Lebaran reached 915,635 people, spread across all modes of transport. The details include rail transport with 302,823 people, consisting of 178,006 intercity passengers and 124,817 regional urban passengers; air transport with 207,261 people, consisting of 161,598 domestic passengers and 45,663 international passengers; sea transport with 54,693 people; ferry crossings with 189,804 people; land transport with 161,054 people, consisting of 145,340 bus passengers and 15,714 travel passengers. The highest on-time performance (OTP) for public transport on H-1 was intercity trains at 98.20 percent, regional trains at 98.90 percent, domestic flights at 85.79 percent, international flights at 70.24 percent, sea at 95.70 percent, ferry crossings at 63.19 percent, and land at 72.49 percent. Ernita advised the public to anticipate the return flow expected to peak on 24 March 2026 (H+3). “We urge the public to plan their return trips earlier to avoid peak times, and consider alternative schedules to reduce congestion and ensure travel remains safe and comfortable,” she said.
